Food for Thought

Why is it that Boy Scouts are considered prepared and preppers are considered paranoid? Guess I am a Prepper Scout!

SOLAR POWERED LED LANDSCAPE LIGHT

They are the most inexpensive solar battery chargers in the world. You can often find them as low as a dollar a piece. For that dollar you get a solar powered light, a solar powered battery charger, a rechargeable battery, a ground stake, and a riser (piece of pipe). They are available in AAA and AA. Some can be turned on or off, some turn on automatically with a light sensor; but, either way you can always pull the battery if not needed.

The light makes a great low level indoor light for “task” lighting (remove the clear plastic “diffuser”) or general light. The LED bulb will last for close to a decade - as will the solar charging panel. On the defense side the auto light sensor could be used as an explosive initiator; and as a daytime trip alarm initiator (night patrols/maneuvers mean daytime sleeping)

The rechargeable battery that most come with is low end; but, most will still last a year. In an emergency the battery could be “shorted” (with wires from its housing if needed) to start a fire.

The charger can be used to charge batteries you use in other items too - i.e. a stronger flashlight, a handheld radio, etc. - or for surthrival, even for some rechargeable electric razors, toothbrushes, etc.!

The stake (some are metal, some plastic) can be as, well, as a stake. Notch it for a tent or tarp stake, etc. Use it as a practice spear point, or sharpened it up for a real spear point or a “punji” stick spike in a trap - for game (food) or defense.

The riser (some are metal, some plastic) is basically a short piece of pipe; and, as such can be used as any other piece of low pressure pipe. It too can be shaped and used in the same manner as the stake. Many are brightly colored and could be cut up for fishing gear. Plastic or metal, they can be taped together to form a blowgun. Single or joined it could also be packed with charcoal to act as a rudimentary water filter. The actual metal ones could be cut up and shaped for edged tools - i.e. hide scrapers, etc. Hung properly they would work well as trip wire alarms - to close and you have a wind chime!

By slipping the riser over the LED light bulb you have a very good, discrete, directional, night time signaling or communication (Morse code) device. The list of uses is practically endless- straw, splint, mini baton, etc. - limited only by your imagination. A lot of bang for your buck!
